3 Broadway Plays in 2019

Find me on:

I have to fangirl a little bit over these broadway plays/musicals. Some have recently come out in 2019 and others seem to be coming back for a revival - either on broadway or other media platform versions. Disclaimer: These are just the ones that have sparked my attention and that seem pretty popular either for their long history in broadway or a push to produce a broadway version.

1. Newsies - Netflix: My co-worker recently told me about Disney's adaptation of Newsies, the broadway musical, and I was amazed at how polished the choreography was in their version. The filmography followed the characters like you would if you were watching it live. They also had a cast of great singers that really added to their production. I would highly recommend watching it on a rainy day while it's still on Netflix.

2. Anastasia - Broadway: The broadway adaptation from the original movie that started it all graced New York's Broadway scene in 2018 and now in 2019, it has come to Chicago, near me! I've loved the movie Anastasia since I was in elementary school. Meg Ryan and John Cusack - how could you go wrong? My mom and I would watch it over and over again on the weekends. She loved the romantic love story with the funny characters and I loved the little bat character and the overarching storyline of a woman that seemed to have come from nothing find her way home. I was so excited when I found out that it was becoming a broadway musical last summer.

3. Rent - Fox Live: This broadway musical seems to have gotten a prime TV live spot on Fox's network. I say "seems" because it didn't seem to be advertised that much. I realized it was happening only a few days before it was scheduled to go on TV. That was only a few months ago, at an interesting point of the year might I add. The live TV musical I remember seeing in the past was The Whiz, which came out during a holiday where all of the family was around to watch it together. Regardless of your take on Fox's Live version, it did have some famous actors like Vanessa Hudgens, Jordan Fisher, and Kiersey Clemons grace the stage.

While this is just my take on musicals that I'm excited about or have heard some buzz about this year, knowing about plays isn't our primary goal. However, we do work with many schools that have show choirs and require equipment to aide in their productions.
