School is almost done! Summer is coming and I bet you're excited as teachers to take a break from your regular schedule. Since you've got a month or so left, and conversations on summer plans are coming up with students, we wanted to share music summer camps and festivals your students could attend.
Also, have you thought of summer camps for the kids or festivals for the whole family? Maybe you'd like to attend one of the choral festivals below. I started researching things for me to do in the summer and of course music festivals came up. They're the staple for the summer in most cities. I'm based out of Chicago so I found many music venues and the summer set list for Milwaukee, WI festivals.
You can do this same search for local choral festivals and summer camps. If you have students that are in choral programs during the school year that want to continue having fun in the summer - sign them up for a camp in the summer! The local university in my town hosts music camps throughout the summer.
Maybe you just want to find your own music festival for a date night, or a family-friendly one. You'd be surprised how many you can find across the country. It might take some time finding one in your area, but here are some to start off with. I'm here to make your google search easier.
- Brevard Music Center in North Carolina
- Fox Valley Music Camp in Elgin, IL
- Idyllwild Arts Academy in California
- Torggler Vocal Institute in Virginia
If your state wasn't listed, check out Majoring in Music's listing of summer camps based on state.
- Choral Fest in Indianapolis, IN
- International Choral Festival in Missoula, MT
- Columbus Children's Choir Festival in Columbus, OH
- Quintessence Choral Festival in New Mexico
- 2019 Serenade! Choral Festival in Washington D.C.
- River City Choral Festival in Jacksonville, FL
I hope this gave you some ideas for continuing music education and fun in the summer! Comment below if you have more suggestions. We'd love to hear from you!
